Why must they always give women a male love interest on TV?

March 18th, 2008 admin

I am a fan of the Women’s Murder Club tv show. The all female main cast dynamic is awesome.

So what is ABC gonna do? They are giving Angie Harmon’s character a male love interest. Totally not necessary. Besides, she already has one. It’s the red headed reporter. They have such awesome chemistry.

Anxiety levels may help elderly women live longer

March 18th, 2008 admin

I came across an interesting women’s health article today.

Apparently anxiety levels may help elderly women live longer. Yet the same is not true for men.

Some findings:

A team at the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University followed 1,000 seniors in three Florida retirement communities for up to 15 years.

They found that women with higher levels of anxiety at the start of the study lived longer than others. Year-to-year changes in anxiety levels didn’t appear to affect women’s survival, either.

In contrast to women, men with higher anxiety levels at the start of the study were more likely to die earlier, the researchers said.

Angina More Common in Women Than Men

March 18th, 2008 admin

I have been doing some reading on women’s health issues lately. It seems that angina is more common in women than men.

Here are some findings of a recent study.

Men suffer more heart attacks than women. But women have a 20 percent higher prevalence of stable angina, according to a new study that conflicts with conventional medical wisdom.

Angina is a common and serious heart problem. It’s caused by inadequate oxygen to the heart, which can lead to chest pain or discomfort on exertion that typically goes away with rest. The condition can result from partially blocked heart arteries or decreased flexibility of the cardiac arteries.

Woman suing American Airlines over masturbating incident

March 17th, 2008 admin

Just another reminder that women should be more aware when traveling alone. A woman is suing American Airlines for not keeping her safe. Apparently she got onto a plane in Dallas and went to sleep. She woke up shortly before landing in Los Angeles. She discovered a strange guy sitting beside her pleasuring himself. In her hair.

American Airlines has apologized. And that is all. I hope this woman owns them after this incident. There is no way they could not have known what was going on. And if that is their story, then how are we to believe that they can detect where “terrorists” are on board?

Are women tourists safe in India?

March 17th, 2008 admin

Apparently, the answer might be a big “no.” And worse, the local police do not care.

Gadling has a story that pretty much illustrates this. To make a long story short, a 15 year old British girl died in India. It was ruled a drowning by the local police. That was pretty far from the truth. The truth is that she was drugged, raped and left to die. Click on the link above if you want to feel disgusted a bit more by humanity.

Info on a Hillary Clinton benefit concert

March 17th, 2008 admin

Are you signed up for the Hillary Clinton mailing list? I am! And I get emails from it all the time.

Well, today I got an interesting email. Apparently Elton John will be doing a one-time solo concert at Radio City Music Hall for Hillary. And concert sales go towards her campaign for president. Tickets are not on sale just yet, but will start at $125.

The date of the concert will be April 9, 2008 if you are interested. Pretty cool, huh?

Thoughts on jobs

March 16th, 2008 admin

Why is it that all of the high paying jobs seem to be positions that men are in?

You rarely hear of a female CFO. You rarely hear of a female VP of Finance. You rarely hear of a female CEO.

Yet there are plenty of female executive assistants. As well as female receptionists. And I can’t recall ever working in an office where a male filled those two positions.

More thoughts on healthcare

March 16th, 2008 admin

You know, since I do not have health insurance you might guess why I am such a fan of Hillary Clinton. I am all over her universal healthcare plan. I would love to get me some affordable health insurance. And I would love for insurance carriers not to be able to cherry pick who they will cover and what they will cover.

And I think so many people would benefit from this. And it seems like they do not even get it! Hopefully Hillary will get in office and get a chance to help us all out.
