I came across an interesting article on women in television and film. The article is about women dominating television and film more than ever. The article also mentions website that are run by women that are dominating competition. It is an interesting read. Yet, somewhat sad that it is such a groundbreaking thing here in 2008.

Danica Patrick became the first female winner in IndyCar history Sunday. This is because she took the Indy Japan 300 after the top contenders were forced to pit for fuel in the final laps.
Patrick finished 5.8594 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval after leader Scott Dixon pitted with five laps left and Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan came in a lap later.
The 26-year-old Patrick won in her 50th career IndyCar start. She took the lead from Castroneves on the 198th lap in the 200-lap race.
More on the story here.

A couple of days ago I mentioned that Diane Neal is leaving SVU. Well, apparently her departure was not something that she necessarily wanted. In fact, rumor has it that Diane Neal was fired from SVU. If that is the case, I think I know why.
I think Diane Neal was fired for gaining weight. It is clear that she has gained some weight. There have even been people speculating that she is pregnant since October 2007. Clearly, she is not pregnant.
It would not be the first time that an actress was fired from a television show for gaining weight. Think Designing Women and Delta Burke and Jean Smart.

Super hottie Angie Harmon has long been one of my fave actresses. She is my fave ADA on Law & Order. And now I watch her on Women’s Murder Club. But soon we will be able to see a bit more of Angie Harmon. In fact, we will be seeing all of Angie Harmon.
Angie Harmon is naked in the May issue of Allure magazine. Gabrielle Union, Jill Scott, Zoe McLellan and Ana Ortiz also appear nude in that issue. More info here.

Ah Hillary. Don’tcha just love her? I seriously hope that this woman is the next President of the United States.
But no matter what, you can catch her on tv again tonight!
That’s right, Hillary Clinton is going to be a guest on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report tonight. I believe it airs at 11:30pm Eastern.
Obama declined the request to appear on the show. Instead, he sent his wife on Tuesday.
Be sure to watch Hillary tonight -Â I know I will!

This weekend I ended up at the movie theater. My movie selection was based on what was playing at the time that I finished eating lunch. The winner? It was The Bank Job. I thought it was the Katie Holmes movie about a heist. Wrong! It was an English movie and it was good too! Saffron Burrows was the female lead in it. While I hated that her role in the film was to be the object of male desire, I enjoy the fact that they picked a lesbian actress for this role. She has been in a relationship with actress Fiona Shaw for quite some time now.

Are you a fan of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? If so, you might be upset with something that I read on TV Guide.com earlier today.
Apparently actress Diane Neal is set to leave L&O: SVU at the end of this season. Personally, I was more of a Stephanie March fan myself. Regardless though, Neal played a strong female character. And god knows we need more of those!

As you know, this blog supports Hillary Clinton for President. So, this is a reminder that there is a Democratic Debate on tonight! You can catch it on ABC. And it starts at 8pm Eastern. See Hillary and Barack square off before the primary in PA on Tuesday!
I’m stoked! I love watching these debates! Go Hillary, go!

I heart the show Women’s Murder Club. So I am pretty stoked that it is set to return to tv on April 29th. However, there are only 3 episodes left of the season. And if the ratings do not show a good performance then there may not be a season 2 of the sweet show.
Some info on this, as well as a survey, are on the USA Today page.
The show returns on Tuesday nights instead of Fridays, so make sure you do not miss it! And do not be tempted by Law & Order: SVU’s 200th episode, which airs against WMC. You can catch it in reruns and L&O:SVU has already been renewed - so watch Women’s Murder Club instead!

You know what is missing in Hollywood? Movies with strong female leads. The only movies that I can think of from the top of my head that have strong female leads are Underworld and Tomb Raider. There may be some others, but these are the ones that I can think of. At least when we are talking about recent movies of the past few years.
Is this because audiences won’t see those movies? Or is it because Hollywood hot shots that are making the decisions do not want to see a woman in the lead?
