Did you watch the Golden Globes on Sunday? I put it on my DVR and watched it after the fact. I did that so that I could fast forward through commercials and boring speeches! If you didn’t see it, you may be wondering who the female winners were.

Here are some of them now:

Supporting actress – motion picture: Mo’Nique for “Precious”
Actress – TV series comedy or musical: Toni Collette for “United States of Tara”
Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical: Meryl Streep for “Julie & Julia”
Actress – TV series drama: Julianna Margulies for “The Good Wife”

Adam Lambert’s performance – double standard?

November 23rd, 2009 admin

A lot is being said about Adam Lambert’s AMA performance. He is getting a lot of crap for it. He says there is a double standard. That women have been doing performances like that for years. And you know what? I agree with him. Why is it okay to have women perform in the manner that he did? It should be okay for all.

Tate Modern exhibition shot down over nude Brooke Shields photo

October 1st, 2009 admin

The UK’s Tate Modern museum has an exhibition right now by artist Richard Prince. It is called “Spiritual America.” And it was just shut down by the police. Why? Because it includes a nude photo of a 10-year-old Brooke Shields. I’m wondering who thought that was okay to include in the first place.

City Winery

September 28th, 2009 admin

City Winery is a venue in SoHo in NYC. They obviously have a large wine list for people that are at the venue to see a show. The list of performers are the hottest touring musicians. In fact, Michelle Branch is performing on Wednesday at City Winery. Her show is an industry showcase for her new album. It is also open to the public. This is her first solo album in 6 years.

No more Guiding Light

September 22nd, 2009 admin

Well, there is no Guiding Light this week. It seems kind of weird that it’s not on. In my time zone they are just playing an extra Price is Right in its time slot. I suspect other time zones where it aired in the afternoon are seeing something else though. Sad days when soaps start leaving the air.

Palin get an apology

June 16th, 2009 admin

If you recall, I was recently talking about the whole Palin vs Letterman thing. He made a joke about her daughter and it was big news. She did a lot of press about the whole thing. And there was a lot of media attention in general. And now it seems that Letterman has apologized. Too bad it took him a few days.

Palin vs Letterman

June 12th, 2009 admin

In case you haven’t noticed there is a lot of Palin vs Letterman talk. Seems like all the news stories I see are on the two of them. So what is going on? Palin was in NYC with her daughter. Letterman made the joke that Palin’s daughter got “knocked up” by New York Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez during their recent trip to New York.

When asked about it, Palin said:

“I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in that way, where it’s kind of OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape,” she said. “It’s not cool. It’s not funny.”

See, Palin was traveling with her 14 year old daughter. And Letterman has said his joke was about Palin’s 18-year-old daughter Bristol.

Letterman said on his show Wednesday that he would “never, ever make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl.” He said he was guilty of poor taste.

Yes, indeed he was.
