Romance novels - I just don’t get it

March 22nd, 2008 Shawna

I do not understand the appeal of romance novels. Really, I don’t. I mean, they set up this false sense of relationships for women. And then women get this idea in their head of what it will be like. So then what happens when they realize that real life is not like romance novels? A heck of a lot of disappointment, I suspect. Of course, I have only ever read one romance novel. But one is more than enough.

How does it happen?

March 21st, 2008 Shawna

How is it that men come to think they can discriminate against women?

How are these men raised that makes them think that women are less than men?

I really want to know this. See, one of my brothers thinks that men are better than women. And it was not that way in my home growing up. So I have to wonder where it came from. It is very puzzling.

Woman suing American Airlines over masturbating incident

March 17th, 2008 Shawna

Just another reminder that women should be more aware when traveling alone. A woman is suing American Airlines for not keeping her safe. Apparently she got onto a plane in Dallas and went to sleep. She woke up shortly before landing in Los Angeles. She discovered a strange guy sitting beside her pleasuring himself. In her hair.

American Airlines has apologized. And that is all. I hope this woman owns them after this incident. There is no way they could not have known what was going on. And if that is their story, then how are we to believe that they can detect where “terrorists” are on board?

Are women tourists safe in India?

March 17th, 2008 Shawna

Apparently, the answer might be a big “no.” And worse, the local police do not care.

Gadling has a story that pretty much illustrates this. To make a long story short, a 15 year old British girl died in India. It was ruled a drowning by the local police. That was pretty far from the truth. The truth is that she was drugged, raped and left to die. Click on the link above if you want to feel disgusted a bit more by humanity.

Guitars just for girls

March 15th, 2008 Shawna

Have you ever tried to play a regular guitar? I did when I was younger. And it was hard! It seemed like my hands were not big enough to play it.

Apparently, that was not far from the truth. And apparently someone decided to do something about it. In fact, there are guitars out there that are made just for girls. Did you know that? If you do not believe me just check out Daisy Rock Guitars. They are made specifically for girls. How awesome is that?!

Anti-Hillary groups and sexism

March 15th, 2008 Shawna

It is interesting how many haters there are out there against Hillary Clinton. And a lot of them are hatin’ on her just because she is a woman. Yet no one seems to care.

Apparently Facebook does not care either. I was reading on the Bust magazine site this. Apparently Facebook has a policy against hate speech yet they let all of these clearly sexist anti-Hillary sites pop up. For the complete article on this, check it out here.

Women that stand by their men

March 13th, 2008 Shawna

It seems that Eliot Spitzer has been all over the news these past few days. Personally, I do not care that he has a weakness for prostitutes. However, I think he should have thought about his wife and kids and decided which he wanted - the family or the hookers. But it is too late for that now.

And I am tired of seeing his wife at his side at his press conferences. I am so tired of women that ’stand by their men’ in times like this. When will it end? When will women be strong enough to realize that they do not have to put up with that kind of crap?

Celebrating women with Madeleine Albright

March 11th, 2008 Shawna

I think that pretty much every woman knows who Madeleine Albright is. She is a former Secretary of State. And a woman that rocks!

She is also a woman that has been campaigning for Hillary Clinton. She made several stops for Hillary in Ohio and other states.

And today she has done a guest post on Hillary’s blog. You can find that post here.

What do you hope for women?

March 10th, 2008 Shawna

Do you have a hope for women? Well, regardless, there is at least someone out there that does. And they made a video PostSecret style about it. The video below was done by Antigone Magazine. And it lists out some of their hopes for women. And I could not agree more with it.

Movie observation

March 9th, 2008 Shawna

Have you ever seen a movie where the main character ended up at the DMV?

If so, what happened?

They were there a really long time right? And someone was really mean and rude to them right?

And did you notice that the movies always have women in those roles? Why do people in Hollywood think that the DMV is staffed with nothing but rude and bitchy women? At least the movies that I can recall are like that.
